The Kansas City Chiefs fought back from a 10-0 deficit to beat the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 and claim their second Super Bowl in a row. This was also the team’s third Super Bowl victory in five years, making them by far and away the most successful NFL team in recent years.

Patrick Mahomes passed for 333 yards, which included two touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for 66 yards, which included a crucial scramble on fourth down in OT to keep the game alive for his team.

Travis Kelce ended the game with 93 receiving yards on 9 receptions, while Mecole Hardman Jr. had 57 yards on 3 catches, including a touchdown.

Patrick Mahomes became the sixth quarterback in NFL history to win three or more Super Bowls. He was named the Super Bowl’s MVP for a third time and became the first player to win the award back-to-back since Terry Bradshaw (1979 and 1980).

Kansas CIty head coach Andy Reid became the fifth coach to win three or more Super Bowls, joining a very illustrious list. The Chiefs have reached four of the past five Super Bowls and became the first team to win back-to-back titles since Tom Brady and the Patriots in 2003 and 2004.

The game started off well for the Chiefs with a quick turnover on the first drive from Christian McCaffrey, who days earlier had been voted the NFL’s offensive player of the year. The Chiefs couldn’t get much done on the offensive end however, giving the ball back a few minutes later.

The first points came from San Francisco when Jake Moody converted a 55-yard field goal, the longest in Super Bowl history.

The Chiefs looked like they were about to hit right back when Mahomes dropped one into Hardman for a 53-yard gain. Unfortunately, the drive was once again stopped by a turnover when  Deommodore Lenoir punched the ball out from Pacheco and Javon Hargrave recovered.

San Francisco then turned to a trick play to get themselves going. Purdy flicked the ball to receiver Jauan Jennings who threw to McCaffrey which ended in a 21 yard touchdown to take the score to 10-0.

The Chiefs closed the gap slightly going into the half when Harrison Butker nailed a 28 yard field goal. It was 10-3 in favor of the 49ers midway through.

Mahomes had an early interception in the second half but the 49ers couldn’t capitalize. The record for the longest Super Bowl field goal didn’t last long as Butker’s 57-yard field attempt was good to cut the lead to 4.

The Chiefs then took the lead after punt-returner Darrell Luter Jr mishandled a punt deep in San Francisco territory. The Chiefs took full advantage as Mahomes floated a touchdown pass to Marquez Valdes-Scantling to make the game 13-10.

Purdy wasn’t done yet however as he drove down the field and ended with a touchdown pass to Brendon Aiyuk. Moody’s extra-point was however blocked, leaving the score at 16-3. This ended up as a crucial mistake in the game as Butker tied it back up 16-16 with 5:46 left.

Moody made up for his mistake with a 53 yard field goal to give his team a brief lead but  Mahomes just marched back down the field for a game-tying field goal. It was the first time since the 2016 season that the Super Bowl went to overtime.

The 49ers won the toss and started with the ball. They did well to get deep into Chiefs territory but were stalled up at the Kansas City 9-yard line. They decided to kick a field goal and take the lead, 22-19.

In the end, that wasn’t enough to beat Mahomes. Two times in their drive it looked like they would be stopped but Mahomes willed his team out of it, picking up first downs with his legs. IN the end it was a pass to Hardman that was the dagger which ended the game, leading to yet another Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory.

This is Patrick Mahomes third Super Bowl win and he is only 28 years old. Looking like he has plenty of good years still to go, there is no telling how many championships he may have at the end of his career.
